Frequently Asked Questions
First, download the pink "This Machine" app onto your mobile device from the app store or Google play. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your account. Once you do that, you'll see a real-time map of all available bikes and stations!
When you pedal, the motor in the bike will engage and put more power behind every pedal-stroke you make (up to 16mph). You don't have to hit any buttons, or do anything but pedal. To slow down, stop pedaling and/or use the brakes on the handlebars. Going over hills will be a breeze!
This Machine recommends wearing a helmet even though it is not legally required to do so. A helmet can greatly improve your safety.
In Tulsa: Make sure your bike is locked to a bike rack (or a public pole where is is safe and not obstructive) in the service area. You must park This Machine bikes within the service area, indicated by the border on the map in the app. You may face warnings or fines if you do not.
In Broken Arrow: This Machine bikes must be returned to This Machine Stations. If you're stopping somewhere on your ride, feel free to park and lock your bike there while you're there, but the city asks that bikes that are not being used are returned to a designated This Machine rack.
After manually locking the bike to a rack or public pole, hit the "end trip" button in the app, and follow all of the on-screen instructions. Your ride will not be ended until you have followed all of the steps in the app, including taking a photo of the locked bike. For more information on how to lock the bike or end your trip, watch the videos above.

To lock the bike, first take the pink cable and wrap it around the bike rack. Place the loop on the end of the cable around the back wheel-lock, and then pinch the orange button on the back wheel lock and slide downwards to lock the cable as well as the wheel. For more information on how to lock the bike or end your trip, watch the videos on the "How it Works" page.
Passes must be purchased BEFORE you scan a bike. To apply a pass, tap on your name in the home-screen. Then, tap "Pricing and membership" to select a pass. Tap the pink box for the one you want. It will be applied when you scan a bike.
In the app, tap on your name to pull up the menu. You can enter coupon codes under "Coupons and credits." Active coupons will be automatically applied to your next applicable ride.
You may rent 4 bicycles at a time on one phone, but only at the "Pay as you Go" rate, which is $2 for the first 10 minutes, then 15¢ a minute after that. If your group plans to ride more than 50 minutes, we recommend using a separate phone for each bike, and purchasing another pass type.
Bikes can't be reserved, but the map in our app shows where there are bikes available in real time.
Tulsa city ordinance requires This Machine riders to be 18 or older. However, our bikes are a great option for when your kids have their own bikes and you're looking for a way to ride with them without transporting your own (probably bigger and more cumbersome) bike. This is also a great way to wear kids out- the pedal assist in our bikes boosts your speed to 16mph, so you'll be able to go fast and far without breaking a sweat.
Tulsa is home to a great system of trails and bike lanes! You can ride on paved trails, bike lanes, and roads anywhere in the service area, and outside the service area, too. Keep in mind that bikes are not allowed on the sidewalk in Business Districts (including the Rose District in Broken Arrow). Make sure when you lock your bike, it's back in the service area, or you won't be able to unlock it again. Locking a bike outside the service area may result in additional charges. You can see the boundaries of the service area in the map in our mobile app.
If your app isn't working, first make sure it (and your phone) are updated to the newest versions. We release new updates fairly often to make sure things are running smoothly. You'll also need to make sure your location services and bluetooth are turned on, and that the app has permission to use them. If you're talking on the phone or using another bluetooth device (like speakers or headphones), the app will not be able to unlock the bikes. Turn these things off while unlocking so your phone can communicate with our system, but feel free to use them during your ride after the initial unlocking step.
